With the recent headlines regarding the FDIC taking control of Silicon Valley Bank in California and Signature Bank in New York, have many concerned about the safety of their money. As a Credit Union, we operate under a very different model than commercial banks or those like Silicon Valley Bank that are considered ‘technology’ commercial lenders providing venture capital funds to start-ups. Instead, our organization is 100% owned by you, our members, and we are committed to managing our resources responsibly and prudently to ensure the safety, soundness, and future security of our institution.
You may have heard that most banks are FDIC-insured. The FDIC is a federal institution that was created to ensure that customers don’t lose money if an FDIC member bank fails.
Similarly, the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) insures deposits at our Credit Union up to at least $250,000 per individual depositor and $500,000 for joint account holders. Please note that accounts may be insured for a higher limit, based on how they are structured.
